Corporal Punishment

In “Our view on corporal punishment: To spank or not to spank?” the article fells about corporal punishment. Parents try to find better ways to punish bad behavior. Half of American parents sometimes spank their children. It could cost them up to a year in jail, a $1,000 fine or the demand to attend parenting classes. Those who object to spanking say corporal punishment is a form of violence that causes psychological damage. The advice of the American Academy of Pediatrics is that spanking maybe used only in choice, rare situation, if at all seems about right. I am going to write about giving advice, spending time with children, and giving more freedom.

First, when your children have bad behavior, you should not use corporal punishment. Young people are important at the times when they grow up. When I was young, my parents did not give punishment. I think it was right, because when parents have punishment to children, they have a rebellious spirit. So parents should give advice when they have bad behavior.

Next, parents should spend more time with their children. It makes a good situation because when parents spend time with their children, they have good effects when they grow up. For example, when I was young, my parents fried to spend to time with me. I think it made me a more comfortable feeling and I had the feeling of love. Most parents should spend time with your children.

Finally, parents have to give more freedom to children. Young people want to enjoy their friends. Sometimes, parents have authority over their children. It causes a bad situation. For example, when I was young, I had more freedom, but my friends did not have freedom. It means when people have freedom, they can do more creative thinking, because when people are kept down, they do not have creative thinking.

In conclusion, today many people want to have good children when they grow up. If you give them freedom, spend time with children, and give advice to children, these will have a good effect on children, because I have experience. So many parents have to have these ways. If you have these ways, your children will have good personalities.

Tragic – is used to refer to tragedy as a type of literature

Summary

In Guterl’s (2008) article, “Would You Like Fries With Your Clone?,” he discusses GM food’s safety. According to this article, GM food has many benefits to people. For example, clone food has same quality as original food so it may help to save money. Actually, some of clone animals are already supplied in the US. However, there is some opposite side of people. That food could cause dangerous situation because it is not an original product from nature. Even though, the author gives both right and apposite sides because he claims that we would not expect cloning food may harmful for human.

Reaction

In Korea, they do not like clone food in these days. They used to eat some of them such as corn, potato, and so on because clone food is cheaper than original food. However, people realize that foods are harmful people’s body. So now they usually try to eat well being food. Actually, I like clone food than well being food. Because well being food is so expensive and I think the taste is totally same. Foods are limited to take care all people in the world, so clone things are needed. This kind of work may improve the quality of food and save endangered animal species. For people, clone things need in our life.

Smoking Survey

1. Introduction
Do you smoke? Have you smoked cigarette under 18 years old? How often do you smoking? What is your opinion? Today scientists know that smoking is not good for your health. It causes serious disease such as lung cancer and laryngitis. Now so many teenagers and adults have smoke cigarette. In “New Dangers of Secondhand Smoke” the author claims that “Researchers have known that secondhand smoke can be just as dangerous for nonsmokers as smoking is for smokers, but now there’s fresh evidence quantifying just how hazardous the after burn from cigarette can be, and how quickly it affects your body.” (2007, p. 1). Also, secondhand smoke causes lung cancer, heart disease, and respiratory ailments. It means when you near to smokers that they have a health problems. However, many people want to quit smoking because they know smoking affects to serious health problems but they could not quit smoking. Because cigarette have tar and nicotine. Nicotine is a drug, an extremely harmful and addictive drug.

2. Purpose
Our group, Dhay, Suliman, and I, decided to find out how smokers think about smoking when they are under 21. I wanted to know who start first men or women. And, I wanted to know what American think the best solution to decrease smoke. Also, I wanted to know how many people try to quit smoking.

3. Hypotheses
I had three hypotheses about smoking. First, I think that males would say they started smoking earlier than females. Next, I think that American teenagers start to smoking at 16 to 19 years old. Third, I think that American teenagers learned about smoking mostly from friends.

4. Methods and Procedures
Our group asked thirty people who are different gender and age in Carbondale to find out different idea. In addition, we decided to ask smokers, because we wanted to know how smokers think about smoking when they are under 21. We prepared a survey (see Appendix 1) that has ten questions. Those questions were mostly choosing the questions, so it was easy for respondents to answer the questions.

5.Data + Chart

6. Results
Actually, males said they began to smoke cigarette sooner than females. Twenty-four out of thirty (80%) SIUC students start smoking. 76.6% students learned about smoking mostly from their friends. Some students learned about smoking from parents in the survey result. The students (60%) think that the best solution to make people quit is high price. The students almost similar answered about if they increase the price of cigarette, it will make smoke less. The last result was about have you ever quit smoking, but students (40%) did not try to quit smoking.
7. Conclusion and Discussion
I believed that men would say they started to smoke cigarette earlier than women. It is true because our survey showed that a number of males started to smoke cigarette earlier than females, before 16 years old. I was surprised that 93.3% students who were 11 years old to 19 years old answered that they had started smoking. Also, I was surprised that 40% students have not quit smoking.
However, it was not surprising to me that 76.6% of people learned smoking from their friends because i was learned smoking from my friends and i think so many people learned smoking form their friends. While i expected that both men and women answer that almost people quit smoking under 4 months.
If I could do this survey another time, I would like to ask old people, because many people do not stop to smoke cigarette. I want to write “Why you don’t stop smoking?” as one of questions, because many people know about smoking make a serious health problem, but they do not do that. Therefore, next time I would like to ask this question.

The researcher investigations about baby bottles are detrimental. The report proposal that chemical makeup of bisphenol A, it make leach more milk or juice than in water. Moreover, manufacturing company show safety of levels expose to hisphenol A when they make baby bottles. However, people who disagree say it is not safety because safety number is not for infant, but for adult. But this contention is not scientifically correct because the study had tested with animals, so it is difficult to apply to human.

Reaction
When I read this article, I think plastic baby bottle is harmful because today’s many people argue about baby bottle. They have to have proved scientifically when they sell baby bottle. When I was baby, it may use to baby bottle. In fact, I do not know what affects to human because I take no interest. But, if I have a baby, I did not use to baby bottle because always parents feel anxiety. Actually, if it is proved scientifically, I will use these products because I want to more safety when I use these products. So, scientist should prove these problems. I have one question. What does “ hisphenol A” mean?

However, Korea teenagers are not early to independent spirit for their parents. But some of teenagers become independent of their parents. Moreover, Korea teenagers are cause many problems about they have smoking, drinking, and using drugs. Sometimes they are have behave violently. It called a juvenile delinquent. However, I think American teenagers do less than Korea teenagers. American teenagers have exposed to violence more than Korea. So, Korea have to have more protect to teenagers.

There is some truth in this article. In fact, schizophrenia cause congenital deformity or acquired deformity. The congenital deformity cause when pregnant women have stress or her family mental problem history. However, the acquired deformity causes their environment. The kinds of environment are child abuse and mental shock. The primary factor can make schizophrenia. For example, when my sister has a pregnant, usually do listen to music, good think, eat health food, and listen to good word. Because of this reason she had a bear healthy baby. Influence of Alcohol

I think parents or family important teaching drink alcohol because they do not know how can drink alcohol. Many teenagers are expose to alcoholic drink. We need to protect to teenagers because they can make serious problems. Like this an events cause drunk driving and fights other people. Moreover, teenagers have a spirit of insubordination. Because of they have got a adolescence. However, some people do not have concern for teenagers. So, we need to prevent to teenagers. We teach decorum and they should control themselves when they have a drinking party. And we have to have concern for teenagers.

Drinking Age Survey

1. Introduction

Do you drink alcohol? How often do you drink alcohol? Have you drunk alcohol under 21 years old? What is your opinion? Today scientists know that drinking is not good for your health. It causes some serious diseases such as gastric cancer and liver cancer. Now so many underage people drink while they go to high school or university.
In “Alcohol use by persons under the legal drinking age of 21” the author claims that “During this time of social and developmental change, many young people also experiment with alcohol, although all States have had a legal drinking age of 21 since 1988” (2003, p. 1). It causes some serious problems such as drunken driving and fights with other people. Sometimes people die from drinking too much. So, there is no big difference between adults’ drinking and young people’s drinking. As a result, drinker health is affect by drinking alcohol. Many underage people are drinking alcohol, but they have not completely grown up psychologically.

2. Purpose

Our group, EAP1 A, decided to find out why underage people want to drink alcohol. I wanted to examine the relationship between gender and when people start drinking. Also, I wanted to know the relationship between age and abstaining from drinking if people have a serious disease.

3. Hypotheses

I had three hypotheses about drinking age. First, I believed that males would say they started drinking earlier than females. Next, I believed that males would feel underage drinking should be allowed. Third, I believed that some people would say that underage people should not drink alcohol.

4. Methods and Procedures

Our group was supposed to ask forty-nine people who are different gender and age in Carbondale to find out different ideas. In addition, we decided to ask SIUC students. We prepared a survey that has nine questions. Those questions were mostly yes or no questions, so it was easy for respondents to answer the questions.

5.Data + Chart
connect here http://eap1.blogspot.com/2008/02/practice-survey-results_27.html

6. Results

Actually, females began said they to drink sooner than males. Forty-one out of forty-nine (83.6%) drink out of SIUC students; twenty-two out of twenty-five males (88%) drink and nineteen out of twenty-four females (86.3%) drink alcohol. There were only a few binge drinkers in the survey result. 89.7% students started drinking when they were under 20 years old; females started drinking sooner than males, when they were under 18 years old. Most students (84.7%) think that too much drinking is not a problem in Carbondale. The last result was about lowering age to be able to drink, but over half of students (69.3%) did not agree that drinking age should be lowered.

7. Conclusion and Discussion

I believed that men would say they started to drink alcohol earlier than women. However, it was not true, because our survey showed that a number of females started to drink earlier than males, before 18 years old. I was surprised at that fact, because I thought boys were more curious and more interested in drinking than girls. Also, I was surprised that 55.1% of people who were 13 years old to 18 years old answered that they had started drinking. However, it was not surprising to me that 66.7% of people experienced drinking before 20 years old, because they sometimes drink when they want to make a friend or when they want to know other people. While I expected that both men and women would answer that drinking should be lowered to 18 years old, over half of people appealed a against changing the drinking age.

If I could do this survey another time, I would like to ask younger people, because now young people make a problem. Also, if I ask younger people, I will be able to get a different opinion from university students’ opinions about drinking. I want to write “Do you have fight to other people when you have drunken?” at the make question because when people are drunk, it will make a serious problem. Therefore, next time I would like to ask this question.

Drinking age

GilJae Yeo
Argument Essay #1

Drinking Age

Nowadays, many people have got problems about drinking alcohol. Have they ever drink underage? What do you think about whether young people can drink alcohol? Now so many underage people drink while they go to high-school or university. It causes drunk driving and fights with other people. Sometimes people die by drinking too much. However, the alcohol is not really dangerous. Moreover, there is no big difference between adults’ drinking and young people’s drinking. The accidents are not related to drinking, because these accidents also happen when people are not drunk. In fact, the number of accidents is not really big compared to the number of people who are drinking underage. The law that limits qualification of age for buying alcohol causes young people to want to drink alcohol.

People have to have the freedom to drink without the restriction of law because people who are high school students have circumstantial judgments and students have to learn about how to control them.

First, high-school students have already got liability for an accident when they make problems. According to Will’s article, Mccardell says that alcohol is “a reality in the lives of 18-, 19-, 20-year-olds” (Will, 2007, para. 2). For example, when university students make money and live apart from family, they would meet more people in society than when they were in high school. So sometimes they need to drink alcohol, because they want to make good relationships. If the law limits the drinking age, they would not have a good relationship with their friends. Because of that, sometimes they infringe the law to drink alcohol.

Secondly, high-school students have to learn about how to control themselves. For example, American schools have a driving test when they are going to school. Sometimes they make a mistake such as drunken driving, fighting with other people or damaging other people. These problems are caused because they have not had any alcohol education. It has come to this, they have to have education about drinking alcohol.

Opponents say that we should not change the law. According to Mulcahey`s article, “The drinking laws were set at 21 years old for a reason.” (Mulcahey, 02, para. 5). Although some people do that, not every person does. The law should not ban drinking alcohol at that age for only a few people who make problems. So many underage people need to drink alcohol when they meet important people and after they finish work. For these reasons, the law should be changed, because many people need to drink alcohol.

In conclusion, they can be responsible when they are 21, when they have a problems, and students need to be educated about drinking alcohol. This is because they made their decision, and they have to pay the consequences of their responsibility. They have to have education about drinking alcohol, it will definitely decrease the accidents. So we need to lower the drinking age. It will have a good influence on many young people.
